Nikon released firmware update v1.1 for D40. I downloaded the firmware and printed out the procedure. I'll be doing the re-flashing tonight. Wish me luck, people!

Lens in sight

As a fast 50mm 100%-compatible lens for Nikon D40 is not yet available, I'm now bidding in for Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED. This lens costs P11,000 in Manila and if I'm successful in eBay (which happened when I got my first & only P & S digicam), I'm looking at P2,000~P3,500 savings. Is the savings worth it? Let's see...

Use of Circular Polarizing (C-PL) Filter

The pictures below show the difference when a CP-L filter is set at minimum & maximum effect. The first image was taken when this filter has minimal (or no) effect. This is the "regular" result using a lens without a filter.

The second picture is taken when the CP-L filter was adjusted for maximum effect.

So aside from making the skies bluer, a CP-L filter is very useful in removing reflections & showing the true colors of the subject area.

Currently, I'm using a Sunpak 52mm Multi-Coated CP-L Filter. I got this for P1,000.

Bounce Flash

As promised, here are some comparisons with a direct flash (left) & bounce flash (right).

Thanks, Fudge, for posing in this session ;-) I love you!
As I learn more about my tools, I hope to slowly break my bad shooting habits.

A happy & prosperous 2007 to everyone!!!

Howdy, mi amigos y amigas! Fudge and I just got back here in Cebu last night. The flight back was quite uneventful save only for the initial ascent which had its moments due to the rainy weather.

Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed our vacation in Mindanao (Bukidnon & Davao) and we already miss our families.

Now, it's time to go back to being a corporate slave.

By the way, a day before we left Cebu, I got this baby - a Nikon D40 (see image)! I'm still learning and hope to improve my skill dramatically this coming days. This tool set (kit + accessories) sat me back about P35,000. Upgrades in sight: external flash & UV filter.

And, finally, I gained 5 pounds but I'm happy as I originally feared a higher figure. My goal for June 2007 is to reach 180 pounds.
Happy, happy new year!!!
